The Silvertones of the Larimer Chorale Present Ella Fitzgerald’s Great American Songbook
NORTHERN COLORADO –3 August 2017
On Tuesday mornings, 160 local seniors (aged 60 and better) come together to sing and reap the health and wellness benefits that come with singing in a choir. Their non-auditioned choir is sponsored by the Larimer Chorale, one of the largest and most accomplished community choral ensembles in the Rocky Mountain Region. The brainchild of the Larimer Chorale’s Executive Director, Wendy White, and Artistic Director, Michael Todd Krueger, the Singing for Seniors program has gotten bigger and better with each passing season. Named the Silvertones, the choir started in 2012 and has won awards and accolades from across the country. The senior choir meets for 10-week sessions in the spring, summer, and fall. Each session has a musical theme and ends in a public concert (or Informance). It is likely the largest senior choir in the United States and one of the few that sings classical and popular songs in four-part harmony.
Want to see how 160 seniors have fun and keep themselves active and challenged? Then come to their next concert, which will celebrate the centennial of Ella Fitzgerald’s birth. Ms. Fitzgerald sold 40 million albums, won 13 Grammy awards and became known as "The First Lady of Song" throughout her impactful career. Perhaps most importantly, she brought jazz to the masses, packing performance venues with people rich and poor, of all ages, races and religions. The Silvertones will celebrate Lady Ella’s legacy by singing her interpretation of the Great American Songbook. Under the direction of visiting conductor Paul Falk and accompanied by a jazz trio, the choir will take you back to the Big Band era with songs like A-Tisket A-Tasket, Don’t Get Around Much Anymore, How High the Moon, and They Can’t Take That Away from Me.
