Larimer Chorale presents Singing on Tap -- Oktoberfest Community Sing-Along
October 13, 2017 at 5:30 pm
Singing on Tap is a new community outreach activity organized by the Larimer Chorale. It is all about engaging the community in the joy of singing – it is spontaneous and fun and, pretty much, unrehearsed. The goals are to promote community singing and demonstrate that singing is a fun and healthy activity.
“Do you enjoy craft beer? Do you like to sing? Do you like to sing while enjoying a craft beer? Then Singing on Tap is for you,” says Betty Lundgren, a member of the Larimer Chorale and organizer of the first Singing on Tap event. “We hope that many community members join in this Oktoberfest celebration. “
“Singing on Tap is all about combining a love for community singing with a love for craft beer,” says Wendy White, Executive Director of the Larimer Chorale. “Beer choirs are springing up across the country and we’ve decided to try something similar in Fort Collins, which, given its wonderful craft breweries, seems like the ideal spot to combine our love of singing with the enjoyment of craft beers.”
Horse & Dragon Brewing Company, which has expressed an interest in the beer choir movement, readily agreed to host the first Singing on Tap event. “We will keep our taproom open a little longer than usual and invite customers to join in the fun,” said Carol Cochran, co-owner of Horse & Dragon. “We thank the Larimer Chorale for putting this together. We are really looking forward to it!”
This will be an informal sing-along, with a few chorale members leading and accompanying the singing. Some songs will come from prepared songbooks but participants will also be encouraged to suggest well-known songs. Lundgren says, “We want people to realize that singing is fun. Community singing is MORE fun. Community singing while enjoying a craft beer is the most fun yet. We hope to schedule Singing on Tap events every few months.”
